Sydney’s life in the farce lane: We test Clover Moore’s bike paths

Published On: 05/11/2014

Getting nearly crushed by buses, almost colliding with babies and their mums and weaving in and out of frustrated pedestrians — welcome to City of Sydney cycleways.

Councillor Edward Mandla has challenged Lord Mayor Clover Moore and the entire council to test the city’s bike paths to see how dangerous they are before any more are approved.

Mr Mandla’s proposed route was tried out by Daily Telegraph reporter Matt Bamford in peak hour, clocking up several frightening near misses with fellow riders, pedestrians and cars.

“It strikes me as a great contradiction that in virtually every council meeting there’s money spent on cycling, yet not a single ... councillor is a cyclist.”
